How to count the days between two dates by hand
Count the days left in the starting month, add the full months in between, then add the day of the month you are counting to. From today to Christmas:
25 days left in October + 30 (November) + 25 (December) = 80 days
This counts the end date but not the start date, the standard way to measure “days between”. If both dates should count, as with a hotel stay or days of leave, add one.
Calendar days, inclusive days and business days
The same two dates can give different answers depending on what you count. From Monday, March 2, 2026 to Friday, March 13, 2026:

Days between dates in Excel and Google Sheets
- Total days:
=B2-A2or=DAYS(B2,A2). Format the cell as a number, not a date. - Whole months or years:
=DATEDIF(A2,B2,"m")or=DATEDIF(A2,B2,"y"). - Working days:
=NETWORKDAYS(A2,B2,H2:H12), where H2:H12 lists the holidays to skip. It includes both the start and end date, so its answer is often one higher than this calculator’s.

2026 has 365 days. Leap years, when February has 29 days, are divisible by 4, except century years not divisible by 400. The next leap year is 2028.
Frequently asked questions
How many days are between two dates?
Pick a start date and an end date. The calculator shows the total number of days plus the same period in years, months and days, in weeks, and in business days.
Should I include the end date?
By default the end date is not counted, so Monday to Tuesday is 1 day. Tick “Include the end date” if you are counting days you are present or working, such as a hotel stay or a leave period, where both the first and last day count.
How are business days counted?
Business days are Monday to Friday. By default the count also skips US federal holidays, using their observed dates. You can switch to weekends only, or to Indian national holidays.
Why can the month count differ from other tools?
Months have different lengths. This calculator counts whole calendar months first, then the remaining days. For example, Jan 31 to Mar 1 is 1 month and 1 day in a non-leap year.
How do I count the days between two dates in Excel or Google Sheets?
Subtract the dates: =B2-A2, or use =DATEDIF(A2,B2,"d"). For working days use =NETWORKDAYS(A2,B2), which counts both the start and end date.
